REVIEW EVENT INFORMATION

boardCONNECT brings together community-minded professionals seeking to join nonprofit boards with a diverse range of nonprofit organizations seeking board members. In this “round robin” coordinated event, professionals and nonprofits engage in brief conversations, rotating throughout the event. The goal is to find matches in which a nonprofit and a professional express mutual interest and want to continue the conversation. Each boardCONNECT event results in dozens of successful matches and new board members.

Important Notes

  • A “mutual match” from this event occurs when both you and a board candidate you meet with say “YES” to continuing your conversation after the event.
  • The only commitment required from you (the nonprofit) and any candidate you are “mutually matched” with, is that you have an additional meeting to continue exploring the opportunity. Further conversations will determine which candidate(s) you ultimately extend a board seat to.
  • We understand each nonprofit has their own interview process and procedures to board election. You are allowed to follow whatever your typical election process is.
  • All board candidates in attendance are employed by T. Rowe Price. Therefore, please be advised that you should only make 1-2 board seat OFFERS at a time. You may choose to mutually match with as many candidates as you’d like; however, you should not have more than 1-2 T. Rowe Price associates sitting on your board at one time. If/when you are making board seat offers, please keep this in mind.
  • There are no guarantees you will be successfully matched with a candidate.

PREPARE FOR THE EVENT

BEFORE THE EVENT

REVIEW EVENT INFORMATION

boardCONNECT brings together community-minded professionals seeking to join nonprofit boards with a diverse range of nonprofit organizations seeking board members. In this round robin-styled event, professionals and nonprofits engage in brief conversations, rotating throughout the event. The goal is to find matches in which a nonprofit and a professional express mutual interest and want to continue the conversation. Each boardCONNECT event results in numerous successful matches and new board members.

Important Notes

  • Nonprofits in attendance will cover a variety of missions, such as environmentalism, supporting youth, and more.
  • At the beginning of the event, you (the candidate) will schedule interviews with the nonprofits that resonate with you most. At the end of the day, only one Constellation employee will sit on a nonprofit board at any given time… so we recommend interviewing with as many nonprofits as you are willing!
  • A “mutual match” from this event occurs when both you and a nonprofit you met with say “YES” to continuing your conversation after the event.
  • The only commitment required from you and any nonprofit you are “mutually matched” with is that you have an additional meeting to continue exploring the opportunity. Further conversations will determine if you are ultimately elected onto the nonprofit’s board.
  • Each nonprofit has their own interview process and procedures, which can take various forms and periods of time.
  • There are no guarantees you will be successfully matched with an organization or ultimately receive a formal board position.

PARTICIPATING NONPROFITS

We are thrilled to announce five nonprofits who will participate in the event! Please click on the tiles below to see more information on each nonprofit.

Don't see the nonprofits? Click here for a popout!

Please note that additional nonprofits may be added or exchanged. If the list of nonprofits changes, you will be notified via email from our team at boardleadership@businessvolunteersmd.org.

SUBMIT YOUR RANKING FORM

Once you have reviewed the nonprofits listed above, we ask you to submit the following Ranking Form with the nonprofits you’d most like to speak with. Please submit this ranking form WELL BEFORE the start of the event! It will make scheduling run more smoothly the day-of.

You do not have to list all the nonprofits in your ranking form. However, we strongly recommend you rank all five, as you will have enough time to speak with all of them if you choose! Many past boardCONNECT attendees have fallen in love with a nonprofit they never expected to speak with initially.

DURING THE EVENT

REVIEW YOUR SCHEDULE

Interviews with nonprofits will be scheduled VIRTUALLY ON OCTOBER 23, 1:00PM ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVE BASIS. Upon your arrival in the Zoom room, you will complete brief form to mark your place in line. Then you will enter a breakout room with one of Business Volunteers’ staff members, who will schedule you according to availability and your completed ranking form.

Please remember that you must submit a ranking form BEFORE you are scheduled, and that scheduling is done on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you have a few nonprofits you especially want to speak to, you should submit your ranking form well in advance AND arrive at or before 1:00pm to secure your place in the registration line.

When your ranking form has been processed by Business Volunteers’ staff, your interview schedule will populate in the cards below (Pro tip: refresh your browser if you don’t see anything!) Scroll to find your name and click on your card to view your schedule. You may also use the “Filter” function in the top left corner to find your card more easily.

Don't see the schedules? Click here for a popout!

Interviews last 10 minutes each. If you have a large gap between some of your interviews, you may choose to leave the room (or your computer) for a break. However, you MUST be back in your seat in time for your next interview! The event will not wait for you if you do not return on time.

  3. It is CRITICAL that your decision is aligned to the correct ROUND. Please look at your schedule above and double check your choices and rounds before submitting.
  4. Make sure to hit SUBMIT at the bottom!

Business Volunteers will review the responses of nonprofits and candidates and share your mutual matches within one week.

FAQs

What should I do to best prepare for the event?

Make sure you have registered for the event, submitted your Ranking Form, AND reviewed all the information under REQUIRED STEPS BEFORE THE EVENT.

Will the list of participating nonprofits change before the event?

Unless there is an emergency (ie, illness), none of the participating nonprofits already listed will change. However, if enough board candidates register for the event, we may admit more nonprofits from our waitlist and update the Participating Nonprofits section accordingly. We will also notify you via email should this occur.

I know exactly which nonprofit(s) I want to speak with. Can I submit my preferences in advance?

Yes, please! Submit your Ranking Form before the event if at all possible. You will not be able to schedule your interviews until your ranking form is submitted.

I only have a couple nonprofits I want to speak with. Is that okay?

Yes, that’s okay! However, when you submit your Ranking Form, please still list all the nonprofits. You can tell our staff which nonprofits you actually wish to speak with while you are scheduled.

If you still have questions, please contact Business Volunteers’ team at boardleadership@businessvolunteersmd.org. Thank you!

Northrop Grumman Kit Hub

Plan and order supplies for your employee volunteer events with Business Volunteers Maryland.
Follow the process below to request kits, plan your event, and deliver a meaningful experience for your team.

The Kit Ordering Process

Step 1

Submit Northrop Grumman Internal Event Request Form and Receive Approval

4-6 Weeks before Event

Before submitting request to Northrop Grumman, it may be helpful to review steps 2 and 3 to understand your budget and other key event details.

Step 2

Review Kit Options using Kit Menu
Kit Menu

Browse available kits using the KIT MENU.

Each kit contains 7-15 items plus a personalized activity.
Personalized activities include: writing a personal note, decorating a kit bag, adding a note inside a book or another creative effort.

Personalized activities are designed to slow down employees (kits can go FAST!), provide some budget relief, and generate a nice human touch to each kit.  Kits can be ordered without the personalized activity.

Step 3

Finalize your Event Run of Show

PLEASE REVIEW BEFORE DETERMINING NUMBER OF KITS TO ORDER!

Kit building projects are a fun, engaging service activity that allows for team-building amongst colleagues at a location you desire. However, ensuring that the event runs smoothly, volunteers stay busy, and everyone understands the why behind the event and kit recipient is critical for a successful project.  Also-  Kit projects go FAST!  To save time and budget, while having a meaningful experience, here is a recommended Run of Show and related timing.

1-2 Hour Event Set Up
  • Leave yourself the time and people power to get the assembly line in order before your event begins.
  • Do you have enough tables and ensure a smooth flow (will your table have two sides of volunteers or one?). Stock extra items to replenish your assembly line under the table or nearby.
  • Where will volunteers sit or stand for the personalized activity? Have ample space and materials spread out for any decorating component. Provide examples of messaging or completed decorations at the table.
  • Where will your empty boxes and recycling go?
  • Where will your completed kits go?

Budget saving/slow down tip: Have volunteers set up the assembly line as a part of their service activity!

Event Opening – Estimated 20-30 Minutes
  • Guests enter and find seats.
  • Welcome remarks from company representative(s).
  • Build in time to understand the cause area being supported and/or nonprofit recipient of the kit. Can a representative from your nonprofit speak to your audience? Can you show a video of the work of the nonprofit?
  • Talk about the project itself. Demonstrate a successful kit build. Model what one completed kit looks like.
  • Have an icebreaker. Love them or hate them, icebreakers get people smiling and release fun energy at any event.
  • Take a team photo! Gathering people at another time won’t be as easy.
The Kit-Building Activity (See Kit Planning Simulator below)
  • Play music! A great playlist will make for a festive room
  • Have volunteers neatly package completed kits for post event distribution.
  • Have a designated person emcee and navigate the pace of the room and the employees
  • Assign volunteers to replenish items running low (don’t open boxes in advance), take down boxes, collect trash.
  • Carefully time yourself. At your half-way point you should be half-way through your supplies.
    • Moving too quickly? Encourage more detailed personalized activity. Ask volunteers to take items to the recycling and trash dumpster.
    • Moving too slowly? Pre-open supply boxes and encourage volunteers to move more quickly. You can always remove or lessen the personalized activity.
Event Closing – Estimated 10-30 Minutes
  • Have volunteers clean up. Leave the room the way you found it.
  • Count your kits to know your impact!
  • Closing remarks. Celebrate how many kits you completed. Thank your volunteers and share your impact. Consider having the nonprofit giving closing remarks and appreciation.
  • Prepare and move items for transport. Volunteers can neatly pack them into boxes, load kits into a car, move them to a delivery dock, and more to get them ready for the move.
    • Understand how your kits will get to their destination:  Will the nonprofit pick them up? Will volunteers drive them in their cars? Will your company deliver them?

Step 4

 Kit Planning Simulator

These factors will inform how many kits you should consider ordering and roughly what the budget would be. This is a bit of art and science and is only an estimate.  To complete the Kit Simulator consider the following:

  • The Max Number of Volunteers.
    • Kits can go fast, so better to plan for max number of people. You can always adjust based on the other factors.
  • Length of Kit-Building Activity
    • Use Run of Show Tips (see Step 3)  to understand just how much time you will be engaging volunteers while kit-building
    • For an hour event with an opening and closing, you may only have 30 minutes or 45 minutes that volunteers will be actively assembling kits.
  • Desired Kit from Kit Menu (see Step 2) and the Estimated Cost per kit.
    • Each Kit contains 7-15 items, PLUS a personalized activity, such as writing a card or decorating a bag.
    • If your company is NOT interested in having a personalized element with your kit- please contact our team. Please note your number of kits and budget will likely double or triple.
  • Event Atmosphere: Consider the atmosphere, and select accordingly.
    • A small team of 20 having lunch and doing a kit build will be much slower than a group of 20 gathered with a shared goal of completing a certain.
    • We estimate that in a social environment a volunteer will complete approximately 15 kits per hour, standard environment 25, and a fast-paced closer to 35 kits per hour.

Firm budget but flexible on kit and project duration?  Firm project duration but flexible on budget? Play around with the simulator to see what is best for your event.

Step 5

Order Your Kits!

Submit your Kit Order

3 Weeks Before Event

To complete the Kit Order Form make sure you know the following:

  1. Date of Event (At least 2 weeks ahead of form submission)
  2. Kit Selection  (from Kit Menu, Step 2)
  3. Number of Desired Kits (from Run of Show, Step 3 and Kit Simulator, Step 4)
  4. Approximate Cost of Selection (from Kit Calculator, Step 4).
  5. Shipping Details (You will need a large secure space ready to hold your materials. There will be many boxes being shipped!)

The order form will give you the option to order “extras” such as scissors, tape, boxes, trash bags and more.

Step 6

Confirmation of Order and Shipping Details
  • Business Volunteers will review and order supplies based on the form details
  • Business Volunteers will request approval from Volunteerism Lead before ordering.
  • Upon approval, Business Volunteers will order supplies and provide tracking and shipping details to the Requester via email.
  • Northrop Grumman Representative will update the internal ERG/Volunteer Event Request Form and Point of Contact/Site Lead with detail

Step 7

Track and Inventory Supply Delivery
  • Make sure your front desk staff or related team members are aware of your delivery and aligned on where the boxes will be held. There will be a LOT of boxes arriving!
  • Using the Order Tracking Number and Shipping Details provided to you, make sure that arrival is on track and items match your order.
  •  Pro-Tip: Labeling boxes with a sharpie when they arrive will help you from having to read small labels repeatedly.

Thanks for ordering with Business Volunteers.
Have a wonderful event!

Turtle Tank

Funding Baltimore's Changemakers

Imagine a local version of “Shark Tank” where passionate changemakers pitch bold ideas to drive social impact in Baltimore.

What is Turtle Tank?

Turtle Tank is a competition founded by alumni of the Business Volunteers GIVE Fellowship as a fun, engaging way to provide monetary support to Baltimore-area nonprofits participating in GIVE Advisory Projects.

Why Does it Matter?

Many nonprofits and social enterprises don’t have the resources they need to bring about meaningful change. The Turtle Tank competition provides them with the visibility, expertise, and funding to drive their mission. By supporting the next wave of organizations and community leaders, we’re helping Baltimore grow stronger.

The Ask

Now in its fifth year, the 2026 Turtle Tank Competition is aiming to raise $30,000 to be awarded at GIVE Graduation in November. With your donation, we can ensure all 8 nonprofits can walk away with transformational funding.

REQUIRED STEPS BEFORE THE EVENT

REVIEW EVENT INFORMATION

boardCONNECT brings together community-minded professionals seeking to join nonprofit boards with a diverse range of nonprofit organizations seeking board members. In this “round robin” coordinated event, professionals and nonprofits engage in brief conversations, rotating throughout the event. The goal is to find matches in which a nonprofit and a professional express mutual interest and want to continue the conversation. Each boardCONNECT event results in dozens of successful matches and new board members.

Important Notes

  • A “mutual match” occurs when both you and a board candidate you meet with say “YES” to continuing your conversation after the event.
  • The only commitment required from you (the nonprofit) and any candidate you are “mutually matched” with, is that you have an additional meeting to continue exploring the opportunity. In other words, if you consent to mutually matching with five candidates, you must schedule five additional meetings after the event. Further conversations will determine which candidate(s) you ultimately extend a board seat to.
  • We understand each nonprofit has their own interview process and procedures to board election. You are able to follow whatever your typical process is.
  • There are no guarantees you will be successfully matched with a candidate.
  • If you are successfully matched to one or more candidates, please recall that participating candidates are employed at Pepco. For the sake of board diversity and safety, you can only add up to 2 Pepco employees to your board.

FAQs

What should I do to best prepare for the event?

Make sure BOTH of your event attendees have reviewed all the information under REQUIRED STEPS BEFORE THE EVENT.

I see some amazing board candidates listed! Can I request to speak with specific people?

Unfortunately, no: the board candidates will ultimately choose whom they wish to speak with. We wish you beset of luck with your conversations!

How can I be most successful at this event?

We require two nonprofit representatives for a reason: you will need to tag-team! The interview rounds will go by very quickly. Make sure you or your event partner are taking copious notes, so you can track which candidates speak most to you and your organization.

How many people can I mutually match with?

As many as you’d like! However, you MUST be willing to go on a “second date” with every candidate you mutually match with. If you say yes to five candidates, you MUST be willing to schedule five follow-up meetings.

I got a ton of mutual matches! Can I add them all to my board?

For the sake of board diversity and board health, you may only add 1-2 candidates to your board. This means that, if you receive five mutual matches, you can ultimately only extend an offer to 1-2 of those candidates. When interviewing candidates, please be transparent on this aspect.

If you still have question, please email our team at boardleadership@businessvolunteersmd.org. Thank you!
